TrEdition – New Edition of the Tradition
If you knew Bulgarian tradition you would definitely be impressed how old it is. Passing by trough the ages it carried carefully its tools. Now, the tradition has a thing to show. This is an old three-legged chair which kept for centuries the Bulgarian spirit humbled but not obedient.
The usual place of the chair was around another three-legged piece of furniture – the “paraliya” table. Both of them usually stood in front of the fireplace – the sacred family place, where values used to grow stronger. The chair itself has taken a bright role in all kind of traditional family customs such as weddings, for example. Another interesting fact is that its presence in dreams was interpreted as a portent of prosperity. And because bulgarians have not only a remarkable history, they are also religiously enlightened, this spiritual involvement reveals its highest values in people’s ordinary beliefs. The three legs are associated with Faith, Hope and Love.
Nowadays the modern furniture ergonomic standards transform the traditional objects into more perfect shapes that fulfill today’s hunger for design. However, the main structural design is preserved with a little touch of modern graphical creativity. The additional traditional rug motives take their place recalling a sense for ancient times. In order to take a permanent place in Bulgarian everyday life, the TrEdition chair needs to meet certain criteria. The goal is to achieve a low cost modular product. Simplicity of the triangular design is the major factor that allows the chair to be grouped with other similar chairs in order to form tables or benches. Plastic is the material used for the low cost production because of its lower expenses. The other variation is the wooden and more expensive one.
As for the person, who stands behind the project, we should outline that is one of the most talanted young bulgarian architects and product designers – Galina Milkova from Urbana Architects.
