Living in a home full of rubbish and clutter does not create an environment that is conducive to peace and productivity. After a long and exhausting day at work, coming home to a big mess can drain your energy even more.
Make a firm decision to invest some tender loving care into your home; remove rubbish and clutter from the physical spaces and you will notice a difference in your mind also. Clean your tidy rooms and make them a more organized which will transform your home into an inviting space where you and others will actually want to be. Paul’s Rubbish Removal recommends some tips to get you started:
Identify what needs to stay and what needs to go
Begin by dividing your home into rooms and make a list of each room. Create an inventory for the contents of each room and prioritize functional items that serve a real purpose in your life, over those which merely have sentimental value, or no value at all. You may face some hard decisions, but you must be committed to stick to them all! For each room, create 5 categories to divide your stuff:
- Keep
- Sell
- Donate
- Throw Away
- Store
Keep Things:
Keep only those items that you really cannot live without, things that make a positive and vital contribution to your daily life.
Sell or Donate:
Sell or Donate items that may still have a functional value for someone else, even if they are no longer useful to you. Don´t keep things if their only purpose in recent history has been to use up valuable space and gather dust.
Consider selling items online, which tends to be more productive and quicker than garage sales. If you have items to donate, local churches or charities may be willing to receive them; even work colleagues, family members, or friends, might be pleasantly surprised to find out that you are giving away something that is just what they were looking for.
Throw Away Things:
Throw Away what is genuinely useless to anyone like rubbish, irreparable gadgets, empty shoeboxes and old magazines with torn pages. If something only has sentimental value, make some honest distinctions. You may feel unable to part with the family heirloom blanket (even if it is musty, faded, and fraying at the edges), but your favorite childhood board game which has vital pieces missing may have to finally meet its end. Be decisive!
Taking photos of sentimental items, you decide to throw away can help to keep the memory alive so that you remain free of regrets. Store items that still have a purpose for their existence in your life, even if they are not regularly needed.
Set realistic goals
Don´t expect to do it all in one day, unless you enlist the help of some energetic and enthusiastic family members and friends. Create a plan of action, with realistic goals, and stick to it.
Get to work!
Choose a room from where to begin, and use a timer to work for specific periods of time. Give yourself regular rest breaks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Use thick, large cardboard boxes (labelled, if necessary, based on the categories listed above), to divide and organize the items.
Finally, be patient. Just as it takes time to accumulate all your rubbish and clutter, it will take time to get it all out, but the end result will be worth it.
