Western New York is not often recognized in design news; this project has embarked upon development and renovation in an area seldom associated with new growth. Seneca Niagara Casino renovations bring modern but warm sophistication to the Niagara gaming environment. In recent years, Niagara Falls has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in the United States. SOSH has found a way to elevate the sophistication of this region while maintaining its traditional appeal. This is the beginning of development in the Niagara Falls region on a grander scheme by introducing high end fabrics and materials paired with a sophisticated design that elevates the casino experience typical of this area. The Seneca Niagara Casino was originally completed in 2003 in a record 100 days at a price tag of $100 million. The Seneca Nation has recently renovated the 1960 convention center putting a fresh, upscale face on the now casino and hotel. These renovations are simply the beginning for this heavily stimulated region.
SOSH Architects New York Office was selected for various projects in 2011 to develop, design, and bring areas of the casino that have the highest retention twenty-four-seven. Due to constant occupancy rates of all rooms in the hotel, SOSH developed a master plan approach that determined the needs of the patrons to achieve this work. Some of the completed projects include the Buffet, the high limit gaming tables, and players lounge area. The all-new Buffet offers a truly awe-inspiring dining experience filled with market-fresh produce, gourmet recipes and a warm atmosphere. The open floor plan of the buffet offers a transparency that is visually pleasing with an omnipresent mixture of materials that blend together creating one fluid unit. Chefs set a scene for entertainment creating delectable cuisine behind buffet islands that illuminate with bright colors of pink and yellow to create an appealing aesthetic for the diner. Thunder Falls Buffet presents distinguished style matched with five star cuisines amid a comfortable and sophisticated center saturated with light. The player’s lounge located in the heart of the casino incorporates accents of 14 karat gold and luminescent fabrics that reflect throughout the room adding soft elegance. High quality finishing’s, comfortable sophistication, and integrated luxury define the player’s lounge allowing it to live up to its name, Baccarat. Two grand chandeliers made up of hundreds of intricately strung crystals hang beneath the gilded ceiling. Beneath the gleam of the chandeliers members sit on broad ivory and saddle leather upholstered chairs that rest at grand gaming tables bearing a unique light blue background. Enter through a side door and you are taken into the lounge that takes on a more modern finish boasting hues of bright blue, red, orange, and gold. Contemporary sharp angled couches and chairs line the side walls giving members individual seating areas to converse with friends while enjoying delicacies from the carefully selected buffet or cocktails from the bar. The bar is illuminated from behind with bright blue flanked by wood detailed paneling making it the main focus of the room. Members will find this area a neutral oasis that boats comfortable elegance whether they come to drink, eat, or play. The clean lines of the players’ lounge give it a warm contemporary open floor plan accessible for all ages.
Challenges faced with the redesign and renovations were the operation and occupancy of the hotel and casino, thus patrons have become a major part of the process of the transformation. SOSH’s intention has been to create exclusive and comfortable areas to entertain, relax, eat, and drink with company maintaining the upbeat energy of the casino floor. As visitors travel throughout the new spaces they can recognize a design that is influenced by the iconic tradition of the Seneca Nation culture and their interactions with Niagara Falls geography.
