Beynac is one of those places that have the special charming character attracting soulmates from different parts of the world. Stephanie Brubaker and her husband had a trip to this destination and when they saw La Maisonnette, they immediately felt in love with it. It even didn’t matter that every morning the bell from the church nearby rings at 7 o’clock, it is the rustic cottage that takes the occupant’s breath away when they open their eyes for the first time of the day. And so the story begins…
From this overview, you can see La Maisonnette on the left hand side. The cottage has a gable roof that makes it stand out of the crowd. Just next to it, there is a fascinating chateau dating back from around the 12th century.
Before entering the fantastic place, one can be amazed by the blossom of beautiful colors in pink and green nuances. A very cozy welcoming, indeed.
A basket of groceries sits by the door. The bread and produce were all bought from the town’s farmer’s market. “The Monday market is the best time to shop for ingredients. But if you need a basic item or two, the small convenience store is the place to go,” says Brubaker.
This very same kitchen area used to house the village’s town oven, where village serfs would pay their lords a fee for use of the oven when baking bread. Brubaker, an avid baker and cook, loves this historical aspect of the cottage.
There are some traditions in this rustic French paradise. One of them is that there is always a basket full of groceries next to the entry door. France is known for its delicious baked breads that are locally sold in every little town around the country. Such kind of everyday buys are essential for the homeowners that live their dream together. After their usual walk to the market, they enter the kitchen Actually, it looks very much alike the old ancient village town oven. That’s why the interior here has a special character reflecting the original charm of the local traditions.
From this angle we can surely observe a true eclectic combination of old and rustic interior items and modern type of chairs.
The ground level, as well as the exterior parts have the same style – limestone walls and beam ceilings. This clever architectural decision removes all the boundaries between inner and outer areas thus providing an easy transition of emotions. The other parts, however, have more contemporary appeal, of course with the essential rustic touch. For example, this rustic piece of furniture places at the ground level dates back to the 17th century.

The master bedroom is located on the third floor. Here is where the French romance can be experienced to the fullest. The cozy interior is achieved by placing a simple but functional bed and a bath tub. As you can see the roof has a sloping shape so the volume of the room is interrupted by vertical lines narrowing the side walls. But this is part of the romantic appearance here. It somehow creates an intimate atmosphere.
Once you see this lovely claw-foot tub, you definitely fall in love for life with it. Just imagine having a nice and warm afternoon bath there, overlooking the glorious valley of castle and chateau like mansions all down the hills. The experience is inexplicable, it has to be felt when goose bumps appear and tears of emotion flow as rivers. A true paradise…
A small corner of the house reveals another view of the rustic character of the place.
The homeowners often do not occupy the place and use it more like a holiday getaway. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the cottage stays uninhabitable. It is lend for rent for the time when the owners are not here and that provides an entire year presence at the place.
The guest room follows the welcoming atmosphere from the rest of the house. Twin beds with soft textiles and small window create an unique experience here. All pieces of furniture has been found in the local vintage shops.
It is a lovely time when you open the window and feel the scent coming form the valley below because it is full of freshness and emotions. The place is simple fantastic with its peaceful landscapes.
The French feeling can be also experienced outside the cottage, where authentic coffee table and chairs are arranged in order have a chilling relaxation in the nature.
