All You Need to Know About Drain Cleaning

Posted by: Founterior , September 8, 2016

Many homeowners notice clogs in their plumbing systems and usually rush to a local grocery store to find a bottle of drain cleaner. These hazardous chemicals are advertised as a simple and inexpensive solution to cleaning drain. But can you imagine how concentrated and dangerous these chemicals are the way they effortlessly make their way through clogged drains? How can there not be any side effects?

On many occasions, these chemicals don’t work and homeowners choose to pour as much as needed to remove stubborn blogs, which is even more dangerous, especially for children and pets.

Deterioration of the Pipes

When a significant clog causes water to flood to the surface, pouring liquid drain cleaner is not the solution. If the clog is severe, harmful chemicals can get trapped in the pipes and begin to eat them away from the inside. As a result, pipes begin to decay and you may need to make repair or replace the drain system altogether.

Toxic Fumes in the House

Small children and pets can be at risk due to the toxic fumes that dissipate inside the house after using a chemical drain cleaner. Once the liquid is poured, clogs don’t open up instantly and the toxic fumes work their way up to the openings of the pipe which affects the quality of air indoors. These chemicals are not only harmful when inhaled but can also affect the water supply in your house if the highly toxic liquid that you pour in the sink reaches the water supply system. This is a risk you simply do not want to take..

Maintain Regularly

It is beneficial to inspect your plumbing system at least once a month. You can use cleaning and inspection tools to detect clogging or other issues at an early stage and prevent them from getting worse. Tools can be found at your local home improvement store and you can not only inspect but also fix minimal issues like mild clogging due to hair or food particles. By detecting these minor plumbing issues early, you can prevent your drainage system from serious damages, corrosion and deterioration.

Professional Help Can be Instrumental

DIY drain repair can be effective in some cases but you need to hire a professional for emergency drain cleaning. Drain cleaning professionals possess the expertise, experience and professional grade equipment that is not usually available at home improvement stores. Moreover, they can fix bigger issues in a pinch by providing long-term, highly effective solutions that really work.
