Modern Architectural Design – Holiday House in Helsinki

COAST HOUSE

Architect Pieta-Linda Auttila designed a prototype of a holiday house in Helsinki, highlighting the versatile qualities of wood. Auttila hopes to provoke interest in wood as a material and increase its role in construction and interior design. The prototype is an example of the pliability and the variety of possibilities that the material offers. The impressive architecture is carried out in Finnish pine, spruce and birch. Long curved panels are the first thing to draw the attention. They enclose an inner yard protected from wind and direct su light. In two opposite ends He the bedrooms and the living-room, whose large windows open a view to the sea and the city.

The prototype VVISA Wooden Design Hotel is designed at the competition WISA 24h Wooden Design Workshop, organized by Finnish wood processing company UPM Kymmene, The hotel can accommodation a few people, but contrary to its name it is not designed to be a regular hotel. The building was constructured on the Valkosaari island and finished at September 2009.
