This is the real story of a family that owns a marvelous Victorian house in St.Louis. Their wish to create a luxurious privacy was their reason to dream, plan and build an addition that has what we call a luxurious Victorian art decor bathroom.
In fact the art deco style was not obligatory, but more like an option. However, the homeowners decided to include such kind of glamour inside their home and create a memorable interior in their bathroom. The style is famous for its richness in details, bright look and clean and elegant lines. The soft curves and strict linear horizontal and vertical lines create a visual illusion of more spacious interior. This contemporary touch inside a Victorian house may seem a little bit strange but you see the sophisticated look from the images below, so we should consider the project as a complete success.
If we can define the bathroom with some exact words they will be: “an elegant, sophisticated Victorian art deco bathroom with a modern touch”. Actually, this brilliant definition is not a result of our imagination but Joni Spear, the interior designer of the bathroom, shared it to our team.
In the original plans of the project, there were sliding doors included. However, a few changes has been applied when the designer took the task to transform the place. He created pocket doors so that he could emphasize the focal point in the room. One of the amazing featured in the bathroom is the textured door glass that imitates rain drops. This way the privacy remains on highest levels while light is being allowed at the same time. When one opens the door he enters an amazing world of precision, where the bathtub stands in its brilliance. At the very beginning there was a crystal chandelier installed but for security reasons it has been changed with a modern pendant with a lighter body.
When this paradise reveals its brilliance in front of your eyes, it is inevitable that your eye drops onto the herringbone floor pattern. It was the homeowner that have fallen in love with this stylish interior solution some years ago when he saw it in a magazine. In his home, the interior designer installed a spectacular, outstanding marble floor.
This bathroom can be also described as a fresh, bright and updated one. Well, its elements are all blended perfectly with the rest of the Victorian style home. For example, the rest of the bathroom have marble floors, so the interior designer of this specific new kind of private area decide to stick to this concept. Lifting our eyes above the floor we should immediately pay attention to another remarkable item in the bathroom – a chrome tub faucet from Jado. This specific stylish piece of furniture contributes to the sophistication in the beautiful art deco bathroom.
There aren’t many items in this bathroom. One of the few, like the high wainscoting, puts enough accent in the room, so it need to be properly painted. The homeowners decided to make it brighter from its original state but it took them three times to repaint it until they could get the desired color. The tricky part was to observe the wainscoting after each paint at several different times of the day. This way, when seen on different angles under different day light, any imperfections on it could be removed.
Inside the bathroom, there are the essentials – shower curtains, claw-foot tub, a spacious walk-in shower. The clear glass sliding doors provide enough natural light inside the shower area. It was the amount of space and the shape of the bathroom that determined the position of the shower. An interesting decision was to create the shower are floor in different patterned basket-weave tiles. This way the designer changed the dynamics of the existing herringbone and added some unexpected creativity.
Joni Spear explains that in an ultra-modern bathroom interior design they would have made the entire shower stall divider glass, but in case the rest of the house followed the Victorian standards it was impossible to incorporate the latest trends. However, the bathroom looks modern but more like a balanced in style contemporary piece of artful private area.
The amazing symmetry that has been achieved by the tub is disturbed by his and her custom vanities. They break the sterile atmosphere and create a calm tranquility because of the earth materials. Additionally, there are beveled mirrors that finish the art deco style.
The polished nickel hardware on the vanities has its own patterned surface. Needless to say, together with the sconces they contribute to the overall art deco interior design style of the fantastic bathroom. Little details, like the paneled door and window trim, reveal the homeowner’s attitude to perfect interiors and their taste for style and elegance.
