Cozy Family Home
Dear Friends,
We would like to introduce you to this gorgeous, cozy and modern family home. The homeowners of this remarkable place are Emily and Steven Miller. They bought their Portland home in Oregon in 2002 and since then they became part of this splendid and lovely fairy tale. Gilyn McKelligon is the interior designer who advised the family of how they could decorate their home, what furniture to choose, etc. As a result, the place became a welcoming modern cozy house for the couple and their two daughters. The total size of the house is 2 200 sq. feet, containing three bedrooms, two bathroom and a lovely home interior design.
Being the woman in the household, Emily shared her thoughts that she wanted a clean and warm place that creates positive feelings. In order to achieve that goal the interior designer advised her placing this gorgeous chairs, sofa and ottomans in the living room. Some of the furniture has also functional purposes, like the ottoman that has an extra storage when it opens its seat.
The splendid table placed in the dining room as well as the chandelier above are creation of Gearhart Ironwerks. Donghia is the company that the Millers trusted when it came to choosing their chairs. In addition Emily placed some of her parents’ pieces of art that they brought from Japan. In order to complete the Japanese atmosphere, Mr. Miller’s wife hanged very nice pictures that she bought form a Japanese artist that lives in USA.
The man in the house – Steven Miller, incorporated his brilliant idea into the dinner table. He suggested that each member of their family should name one of the legs of the table after his own name and engrave it there. Alexandra, one of the daughter is the Millers, always sits by the leg of the table that has her name on it.
On of the benches placed in the house functions as a storage, thus keeping the clean and elegant interior design to stay simple.
The story of this functional, yet stylish corner in the house is really intriguing. The Millers showed to their interior designer an accidentally found picture of a den, where everything seemed in perfect order, neatly organized in a manner that makes oneself start dreaming. And the Millers dream came true! McKelligon was very glad that the homeowners had a visual reference of what they expect because he didn’t have to imagine what the desired atmosphere had to look like.
Can a family home be cozy without showing some of their children’s achievements in school? Not, of course. The colorful painting you see is made by Alexandra in her kindergarten. Lovely, isn’t it?
The other daughter of the family also has strong artist skills. A local artist worked with the child in her class at school and the fantastic result adorns one of the walls in the cozy house.
For the most sincere moments of the couple, the Millers placed custom made cabinets in their room. This is the place where they spend most of their time together. In order to create a memorable atmosphere, they chose warm tones that calms the feelings in the surrounding environment.
The children room is in totally girlish style. The girls simply love the pink colors and their sweet small furniture.
Another view of the girl’s bedroom reveal how the childish dream came true. Everything here speaks of tasty choices. The bed, the cushions and the decorations. It is a true girl’s paradise.
Raoul Textile is the company that created this lovely cushions. They are cheerful, funny and colorful. Just the right thing to place in a kid’s bedroom.
