HOUSE IN MINAMIMASHI
The endless search for new horizons is a creative motto for Makoto Tanijiri, founder of Suppose design office.
He describes his work as a chance to realise fresh ideas and the process of designing for him is marked by the pleasure of finding unknown potential in architecture. He definitely manages to combine innovation and untraditional look in the creation of this modern minimalist house design. The greatest challenge which he had to overcome here was the limited space. The small plot of land puts limits to the shape as well as to the size of the building.
In spite of this Tanijiri has managed to increase the floor space and has oddly shaped facade. Parts of the upper levels slide out and as he himself notes he has turned them “into
spaces with a sense of distance and perspective, maintaining privacy even in crowded urban areas where housing units are close together.” Thanks to this decision the protruding parts adhere to the connection between the inside and the outside and play a key role for letting natural light into the rooms.
