There are many ways to style your home and one of them is to use shelves. They are great because they can function either as a decorative element or as a storage option where you can place books, small items and interesting market findings. Of course, as every type of furniture, they can be separated in several different categories.
Let’s see what are the floating shelves:
Floating wall shelves
Having in mind their name it is obvious that they application is at the wall. I have seen several good examples of wall mounter shelves and I find them beautiful. One of them was applied in the hallway in one of my friend’s apartment and the other one I have seen was a brilliant addition in the living room. When placed in the hallway the shelves displayed soem very funny and interesting decorations that my friend has been collection from trips arround the world, while in the living room, there were books on the shelves
White floating shelves
They are simply gorgeous! Their white color is universal and goes very well with almost all type of colorful combinations in the interior as well as various interior design styles. I like very much those simple, minimalist floating shelves that IKEA sell – with their polished surface and stylish design. I must say that I posses some of them in my home and they have two major advantages. First of all, they are really easy to install. And secondly, you will hardly notice any dust on the white surface which makes them eays to maintain.
Black floating shelves
Unlike the white ones, on the black shelves you will spot every single piece of dust because of the contrast it makes when falls down on the surface. They are not so easy to maintain but their major advantage is that black is usually percepted as divine, as the ultimate stylish color palette which displays elegance and top quality. That’s why the black shelves add a luxurious note in the interior.
Float cube shelves
These are great since they consist of some amount of separate cubes mounted near one from another. This separate boxes can be used for placing books, vases with flowers, picture in frames and other decorative stuff. They go really way in modern casual types of homes with functional furniture.
Oak floating shelves
Continuing with our descriptions of wall shelves we go deep into the luxurious segment of high quality materials. Since oak is a natural material, it is also very expensive. I have seen in some magazines fascinating examples of oak use in interiors and I will definitely say that unless you have traditional, modern traditional or heavy and expensive classic interior, you’d better avoid using oak. Of course, these materials are great and look gorgeous in the interior but they can make you dig deep in your pockets.
Floating glass shelves
I tend to see more and more people and interior designers who use glass in modern interiors. Glass is great because it is very stylish when it is combined with metal. In case you are willing to place glass shelves, you can add some metal figurines or other decorative items on them. This way you will achieve one truly stylish composition
Floating corner shelves
They are simply gorgeous! They are so handy when it comes to decorating your wall corners or just want to add an element that will balance the entire interior composition. On the other hand, they are also very practical since they provide additional storage space for stuff.
DIY floating shelves
Some people prefer not to buy shelves from the markets but make them on their own. This is great! Just before making a shelf try to figure out what color will best suit your interior. Shelves are great because they can add visual contrast in the interior. For example, if you have pale brown walls and white furniture with creme accens a sharper in color wall shelf can make it a focal point in the room. In this particular example, pale dark violet will do the trick since it will distinguish the shelf from the entire color composition while it will match the pale nuances.
