As the seasons change its nice to give your interiors a bit of an update to reflect this. However it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune to make little home improvements. Online money saving and voucher code website My Voucher Codes have created a list of their favourite trends for the autumn/winter season and how to save money when making these kinds of updates. You can read their full tips here, but we have pulled our favourites and explain how to add them to your home.
Colour
Colour is the most important aspect of interior design for us. It’s the base, a blank canvas you fill the room around. You can actually easily switch up the colour of your room with the seasons and not have to change your furniture. The key is working with similar colour pallets throughout the seasons. So your furniture and accessories should also work with your new colour schemes. Sometimes it’s as simple as adding in a new throw or slightly different cushions to make a new colour work with existing furniture.
This season we are looking at darker pallets; rich blues, shades of grey and natural colours. You’re looking for dark moody colours, combined with pops of colour which create a statement and give a feeling of a warm and inviting space. If you do prefer lighter colour schemes then stick with softer chalky hues, which will create a relaxing environment.
Accessories

Bright throws and bold cushions will work really well against darker backgrounds. This is a great option if you don’t want to paint a statement wall, it’s also an easy and quick update. Go for colours which work well with the whole colour pallet of your chosen wall colour that means if you do update your walls you won’t have to update all your accessories. Richer, darker and more vibrant colours work really well for the cooler seasons, making a room feel more inviting.
Furniture
It can be expensive to buy new furniture when you switch up your home décor, however it doesn’t have to cost the earth. Can you upcycle your existing furniture to make it work with your new décor? There are lots of options available now for furniture paint so a simple pine dresser can be given a lick of paint and look new again.
If you can’t update your existing furniture, why not check out auctions or car boot sales to pick up a bargain. Online auction sites and social media sites are full of people wanting to off load their unwanted furniture. If you sell your unwanted items you can use the cash to buy new second hand pieces and add your own stamp to them by upcycling.
Technology
Retro technology is cool at the moment, whether its original items such as vinyl players, typewriters and retro games consoles or modern reproductions, this style is very big this season. If you can’t afford new, again hit auctions and see if you can refurbish older items. If not then keep an eye on sales and you might be able to pick up a bargain during Black Friday, Cyber Monday weekends or end of season sales.
