Creating a Gallery Wall

If you have several or more pieces of art you’d like to display, we suggest creating a gallery wall. A gallery wall allows you to show off several different types of art in a cohesive and harmonious manner.
But, you need to make sure you do it the right way. Otherwise, your art will just end up looking messy and out of place.

1. Find the Balance Between Cohesion and Variety
While a set of uniform art pieces can look stunning, the best way to take things to the next level is to choose art pieces that have the right balance of similarities and differences.
In order to choose art pieces that are different in style yet still go together, we suggest sticking to one unifying theme. For example, you may choose pieces that all have the color pink in them. Even if some pieces just have a splash of pink, this can really help tie the rest of the art together.
Or, maybe you want to focus more on style and choose pieces that all have a Victorian feel to them. Choosing a theme can help the art selection process feel less overwhelming.
2. Vary the Texture
When creating a gallery wall, it can be amusing to choose art pieces that are made from different materials, so as to vary the texture.
In other words, not everything you hang needs to be a piece of paper inside of a frame or a painting on a canvas. You can mix things up by hanging up things like ceramic dishes, laser cut maps from Silvan Art, or woven baskets.

When selecting frames, you either want everything to be uniform or for there to be as diverse as possible. So, don’t hang up ten pictures with all black frames and then one random white frame.

Varying the size of your art is one of the most important things to keep in mind when creating a gallery wall.
If all of your art pieces are the same size, your gallery wall is going to look too cohesive. We suggest getting frames in as many different shapes as you can. Also, if you plan to hang a lot of paintings, make sure the biggest ones aren’t too big. Otherwise, it’ll just look like you hung up a large painting randomly surrounded by a bunch of smaller paintings.
Depending on how much space you have on your wall, you probably don’t want to go much larger than 20×20 for your largest piece of art.
