MEXICAN PLAYFULNESS
A single look at Joel Escalona‘s works is enough to find out playfulness is the leading motif.The young designer creates plain, practical and at the same time innovative products. They fascinate with dynamic forms, teasing interpretations and, of course, functionality.
Joel Escalona was born in 1986 in Mexico City. He studies industrial design at Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana Azcapotzalco, Mexico City. Although he lives in his home town he is eager to work with clients all over the world through his virtual studio.
Prior to the launch of his studio in 2008, Escalona worked as a furniture designer at Grupo HeWi and a creative director at Xilem accesorios y mobiliario. In his short biography as an artist, the young designer received recognition in a number of competitions, including Volvo For Life Design Awards, 2007, Second National Competition of Furniture Design in American Hardwood, June 2007, National Design Award in Stainless Steel, 2007, and Whirlpool Mexico Design Award, 2007.
