ON/OFFICE
Jump Studios designed an inspiring luxury office building for Communications group Engine in London. The five-story building accommodates all the twelve companies, part of Engine. What proved to be most challenging was to design a space that would appeal to a wide range of tastes, and yet recognize the individuality of each of the brands.
“We wanted the office to look like it was machined rather than constructed”, says Simon Jordan, Jump director. That concept is best evident in a series of elements that go through all rooms and shape a kind of a spine, connecting the ground floor to the fifth floor. The most impressive of all is the floating presentation hall on the ground floor.
“I think this works pretty well as a sculptural element,” says Shaun Fernandes, head of designers.
Among the original ideas are the seating pods with Corian® walls and the illuminated ceilings by Barrisol on the top floor. In that calm environment the employees can relax and talk, enjoying the marvelous view of the city.
Trying to find new alternatives to ordinary tables and chairs results in some unconventional ideas, such as a seating system, resembling mini halls, or a room wholly furnished with cork and cork stools.
