Design of Our Time
KARIM Sampler is the name of the collection of more than 100 objects illustrating the trends in the work of the one and only Karim Rashid over the past fifteen years, were exhibited at this year’s edition of Salone del Mobile. Marco Casamonti was the curator of the unique exhibition which put into one place Karim’s functional furniture and accessories which make life easier and more comfortable, contribute to its artistic nature and good mood. The exhibition initiated by Gruppo 24 ORE and Cielo, Martini, Novacolor and Velux companies outlines the work of one of the most outstanding modern designers whose new products get closer to his dream of changing the world with his ideas.
Karim Rashid has created over 3,000 projects and has won more than 300 prestigious awards among which are Red Dot Award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award, I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review, IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award and others.
A considerable part of his works are included in the twenty permanent exhibitions of galleries worldwide and are welcomed with much interest and admiration.
Rashid was born in 1960 in Cairo to Egiptian and English parents and he refers to design as “business for beauty”. He states that everything in life should be related to beauty, which in his own words is a collective human necessity. Karim Rashid firmly believes that we can live in a different world full of true contemporary and inspiring objects and places. He thinks that modern design should not just provide answers to questions but should aim at improving our everyday life.
The impressive exhibition in Milan which focuses on his latest ideas is a proof of his desire to make people an active part of modern world where they can live freely, consciously, comfortably and most importantly – keep abreast of the time.
