Driade
One of the most appealing messages of Driade is the introduction of a refined aesthetics to the personal living space. That is achieved through an eclectic, yet harmonious, combination of different styles and tendencies, with a tint of curiosity, surprise and cultural variety. The company develops its products under four brands – Driade – home furniture, DriadeChef – kitchenware and utensils, DriadeStore – lighting fixtures, and DriadeKosmo – accessories and decoration.
The Beginning
The company, founded by Antonia Astori, her brother Enrico and Adelaide Acerbi, his wife, was established in 1968 and found its place among the leaders in modern furniture design with its first steps in the field. Antonia is the leading figure in Driade’s development. After she graduated in Industrial and Visual Design from the Athenaeum of Lausanne, Antonia became a designer in the company and played a key role the formation of the visual identity of Driade. She can be also credited for creating some of the most successful products in the history of the company – Oikos (1972), Kaos (1986) and Pantos (1993).
Keeping Abreast of the Time
From the mid 90’s of XX century onward Driade’s designers turn their attention to plastic, which allows for the creation of highly flexible, inexpensive items. That is how they win over young people and the customers with limited finances. At present, Driade’s catalogue features furniture, systems, kitchens, state-of-the-art items and accessories for everyday use. The company works with world-famous designers, such as Enzo Mari, Achille Castiglione, Paola Navone, Allessandro Mendini and Fabio Novembre. Driade’s latest products carry the signatures of big names, such as Tokujin Yoshioka, Ron Arad, Claudio Bellini, Naoto Fukasawa, Patricia Urquiola, Konstantin Grcic, and Philippe Starck.
