The place is situated in the residential area in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay district. When the project for the restaurant was started the main entrance has been renovated. Another new feature is the VIP dining room and the lounge area.
The newly built VIP place is situated at the facade of the building. In order to provide a real VIP experience, it has been separated from the main restaurant entrance. Thus, the private space is surrounded by the public exterior. The main purpose of the design was to ensure a truly interaction between the passing by busy street-life and the depths of the hidden restaurant VIP space. This has been achieved by combining different elements with various shapes, by amplifying perspectival views and by a the use of different transparencies and reflections. This is the success formula that drives all the potential clients from outside the restaurant to make the first step towards the decision of visiting the place.
One of the most remarkable things about the place are the curved bamboo fins. They are used in combination with mirrors, places on opposite walls from one another. Their goal is to enlarge the space and creative an illusion of a wider place that will make the clients to stare at the main entrance of the restaurant. What makes this place unique is the ultimate dynamic design that corresponds with the lifestyle of its visitors.
All of the fins are computer numerically controlled milled from a flat sheet. This way they are properly cut at all their edges. The surfaces behind on which the fins are placed are produced from a similarly flat raw material. The technique behind the construction limits the possibilities for arbitrary shapes. This really complex combinations of material used for this kind of surfaces are used in the corners of the restaurant in mixture with led lighting.
The interior of the VIP room is made drom dark blue fabric, which is used as a contrast of the light colors of the bamboo finishing of the fins. This allows the geometrical forms of the ceiling to interact even more. One of the windows i the restaurant allows a filtered connection of the VIP room and the street, while, on the other hand, the corridor window made with the characteristics of the matted transparency assures privacy for the evening party. Accidental curiousity is blocked by the heavy curtains, used in the room.
As a conclusion we must say that the professional combination of all the design elements is simply brilliant. There we used a lot of objects in order to create a visual illusion that can influence visitors mind in terms of spaciousness. Furthermore, the interior design is so well designed that a passing by pedestrian can be impressed by the scarce glance for the private space that is revealed in front of him.
