There are a lot of things in your kitchen that require a lot more thought than a lot of people think. It almost feels as though there’s an endless supply of things you have to buy these days- cupboard supplies, washing up liquid, plates and cutlery. People always forget about making sure they get a good garbage disposal, and that’s why there are so many families out there with disposals that don’t work or aren’t the right model for them. This is a really important aspect of your kitchen, and one you need to make sure you get right; but how do you do this? What actually defines a good garbage disposal, and what kind will best suit you and your home? Don’t worry, we’re here to tell you everything you need to know about what garbage disposal you should get for your home.
I found what garbage disposal I needed for my home at this link, so make sure to check it out.
First of all, you need to think about the size of home you have. We aren’t talking about the number of people who live in it, but rather the actual physical size of the house. This will help you determine the physical size of garbage disposal that you can actually fit inside your home. Bigger houses tend to have larger cupboard spaces, so you’ll most likely have more room under your sink for your garbage disposal. If you have a smaller area under your sink, you’ll need a smaller sized disposal. If you have a larger area to work with, you can afford to have a larger sized disposal. Don’t let this fool you though- just because it’s bigger in size doesn’t necessarily mean it’s got a more powerful engine.
Next, you do need to think about how many people live in your home. This number of people and the amount of rubbish they go through will determine the size of engine you need your garbage disposal to have. If your home has 1-2 people living in it, an engine size of ⅓ or ½ HP is required. If you have 3-6 people, a size of ½ or ¾ HP is recommended and a home of 5-8 people should have an engine size of ¾ to 1 HP. This will ensure all garbage can be broken down and it won’t crumble under the pressure of too much rubbish.
Of course, you also need to think about the price of your garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are the same as a lot of other products- price doesn’t necessarily guarantee quality. Of course, you do tend to get what you pay for. If you underspend and don’t invest enough, you’re much more likely to get a dodgy disposal with a poor quality engine. Try not to overspend, though- search the market to find the best garbage disposal you can for the most competitive price.
