Your backyard is a play area for your kids but can also be a habitat to several insects and bugs, many of which may be dangerously harmful. If your backyard is a storehouse of fallen dry leaves, timber, stones, bricks, or piles of organic trash, you should be careful not only to clean your backyard but also to take steps to get rid of the following harmful pest that you may find under the debris.
Bark Scorpions
These are one of the common types of scorpions found in the homes, usually in the South and Southwestern United States. These are nocturnal predators and feed mainly on roaches, beets and crickets etc. They avoid the sun and heat and are habitat to dark areas, usually hidden in gravel, piles of wood, tree barks or slight cracks. They can squeeze themselves in small places as tiny as 0.06 inches.
These are light brown or yellowish colors and much like a yellow ground scorpion. Both types of scorpions have small, slender hands and fingers. Their bite is similar to the sting of a wasp or bee but can be dangerous to people who show allergies. Bark scorpions can easily climb rough surfaces and are most usually found inside homes, behind curtains, in shoes or window vents.
Brown Recluse Spider
These spiders are most commonly found under piles of wood and beneath rocks; however, they can also hide inside clothes, basements, and spaces to crawl inside. They have a distinctive violin shape pattern on its back. The eye pattern is a unique feature having a six-eye semi-circular structure, whereas other spiders mostly have eight eyes. They are found in various sizes, and color can range from dark brown to tan.
If a brown recluse spider is provoked, it may attack and bite. Its sting will not kill but causes fever, blister and sleeping problems in adults. You should seek out prompt medical care if you get bitten by a brown recluse spider.
Deer Ticks
Deer ticks are found hidden in the grass or thick foliage and reach out to humans, dogs and pets to feed on their blood. Many ticks are harmless, but these uncommon deer ticks may cause Lyme disease anaplasmosis and babesiosis. These conditions cause severe influenza, neurological symptoms, and joint complications if not handled on time. Staying on the safe side, it is essential to remove a tick within 36 hours so that the chances of severe allergic infection is reduced.
Ticks can latch-up and travel anywhere from tall grasses or low shrubs. It is important to remove heavy foliage covering or bordering your yard. Also, keep your yard clean from dried leaves accumulating on the ground or near shrubs.
It is crucial to get professional help to clear up your backyard from these three harmful pests if you spot any one of them. Even if you don’t it is always a good idea to let an inspection done so that you are safe from any harm.
