The world of home decor is one that is in a state of constant flux. Every year, designers come up with something new, and 2016 is no exception. In most areas of the home, the luxury hotel look is what everyone is going for.

This is certainly true of the bathroom. Designers have realised that people are spending more time at home, instead of going out or opting to go on holiday. As a result, many homeowners are being tempted to add a touch of luxury, especially in the bathroom.

Those with the cash are creating the hotel bathroom experience in their own homes. Big glossy, rectified tiles, faux marble flooring, huge fast fill taps and Jacuzzi baths are all selling well. For those with the space extra big bathroom suites are all the rage.

It all matches

Another trend you can expect to see is using the same kind of materials on the walls as on the floor. For example, using the same wood on the floors and walls, but protecting the area around the shower, bath and sink using Perspex splash backs that still show off the wood.

The emergence of hyper realistic laminate flooring and lino that comes in a range of effects including wood, stone and tiles means that even people on a tight budget can afford to get this look. For example, buying large bold mono coloured tiles for the wall and laying lino that matches on the floor. This type of flooring is cheap, and as you can see from this video, extremely easy to lay, so it is a great option.

His and hers fixtures

His and her sinks continue to be popular, but you can now add his and her towel rails to the must have list. That means no more arguing about who left marks on the hand towel, and did not bother to change it.

Ornate mirrors

Mirrors have always been an important fixture for the bathroom. But, for 2016, they are even more important. Gone are the frameless, over the sink mirrors of the past few years. Ornate mirrors are definitely set to become popular, but you will need to be careful about how you hang them because some of them are quite heavy.

Scandinavian styling

The Scandinavian style is still going strong – at least for bathrooms. Think minimalist chrome fixtures, white walls, and flush cabinets, and you get the idea. It is an easy look to achieve, but some people find it hard to maintain, so it is not as popular as last year.

Wood is back

For the first time in decades, you can expect to see wood making an appearance in people’s bathrooms. Fans of natural wood will welcome this trend, but you need to be careful to buy units made of materials that can withstand the humid environment of a bathroom. If you are on a tight budget, some very nice faux wood units are available, that will do the trick.

To complement the wood you will once again find it relatively easy to buy brass bathroom fixtures.

Other trends are still emerging, and 2017 will bring us another wave of new bathroom styles. Without a doubt if you are revamping your bathroom you will not be stuck for choice.
