6 Things You Should Consider When Buying A Mattress for Your Family

Purchasing the best mattress to sleep on needs careful planning. After all, you’re going to spend plenty of time on it. A high-quality mattress will also help provide you good sleep, which enables you to function well during the daytime. Having enough sleep is also key to maintaining an excellent overall health.

When looking for a new mattress, here are some things to consider.

1, Size

Consider your current needs in a bed before going out to shop. You could be buying a new mattress because you need a larger one, or you might be moving to a smaller place and need a smaller bed. Depending on your needs, you may also need to get a new bed frame. You may also need to consider the size of the bedroom and how much space you have before choosing a bed.

Bed sizes can vary from twin (38 by 75 inches), full (53 by 75 inches), queen (60 by 80 inches), and king (76 by 80 inches). Check out HappySleepyHead for some good mattress recommendations.

2, Type

There are various options to try when it comes to mattresses. Each type of mattress comes with its pros and cons and learning more about these will help you in deciding which one to get for your bedroom.

Here are some options to think about:

  • Memory foam mattress. This type of mattress can be expensive because of its great cushioning property. It’s said to help relieve muscle pains and sore joints. On the flip side, this kind of mattress can get quite hot, which can be uncomfortable for some people.
  • Innerspring mattress. This is the most common and the least costly type of mattress in the market. An innerspring mattress provides good support and comes in various options for firmness. Unfortunately, this type of mattress is not as durable as the other options in this list.
  • Latex foam mattress. This type of mattress is almost the same with memory foam but comes with more elasticity and more bounce. You can choose latex foams that are synthetic, natural, or blended. This type of mattress is a good option for people who don’t prefer the warmth of a pocket memory foam mattress.
  • Air mattresses. This type of mattress comes with springs that have a foam overlap. A high-quality hybrid mattress offers the benefits of both innerspring and foam models. Also, hybrid mattresses can come in either latex or memory foam. This type of mattress allows the user to customize its firmness according to their liking and even allow your bed partner to customize the other half of the bed. On the flip side, this feature makes this type of mattress more expensive than other mattresses.

3, Comfort

Because the amount of sleep you get will significantly affect your overall health, it’s important to choose a mattress that will provide you comfort while you sleep. Thus, it’s best to try the bed before deciding to buy it. This step should not be skipped if you want to get the most value for your money. It’s crucial to get a feel for the mattress you plan to buy and feel its softness or firmness. Whether you want something firm or plush, it’s up to you how comfortable you want your mattress to be.

4, Trial Periods and Return

While you may have taken the time to try out the mattress in person, the actual comfort test comes after a certain time of sleeping on it. It’s why a lot of mattress sellers provide a trial period, which can be as long as 30 days. During this time, you may return the mattress if you find that it’s not as comfortable as you’d want it. However, note that many stores will charge a restocking fee should you decide to avail this option.

5, Soft or Firm

There isn’t a standard measurement for a mattress’ firmness. A firm mattress for one store can be extra-firm for another. This again tells means you have to personally test the mattress as many manufacturers just use verbal descriptions of their mattress’ firmness. Thus, a mattress can be firm, medium, or soft.

6, Material

It’s crucial to consider a mattress’ material especially if you have family members who have allergy issues. Sensitive skin or an irritable respiratory system may do well with mattresses made of natural materials such as cotton, bamboo, wool, and silk. Synthetic materials may be stain-resistant and easy to care for but not everyone may respond well to these materials.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a mattress for the whole family isn’t something you do frequently. A mattress can last you several years so you need careful consideration before deciding on one. Using the given factors above, you should be able to narrow down your choices significantly and eventually choose the best one for you. Since a mattress plays a great role in giving you quality sleep, choosing one should be considered an investment.
