In the Ziqidonglai Central Park in Jiading, a new area in Shanghai, there is a new construction that is attracting visitors. The newly built amazing bookstore fascinates with its charm and welcomes visitors that are ready to dive into the depths of knowledge. The building is facing the busy city streets to the east and the north. To the south and west it looks towards the park. Because of this boundary between nature and human civilization, the architectural project tried to incorporate the symbolical meaning into the building. The wall forms the court which is in front of the bookstore as well as a green place in the back of it. Thus, in the middle of the construction are formed the areas where the whole of the interior is settled as well as the atrium and the terrace. This perfect combination and synchronization between nature and human made inspires people to read a book in a relaxing atmosphere.
You can outline a change in the wall height as you are following its position from the beginning to the end. This is how multi-layered functional spaces are created. This dynamical change in height transforms the existing space into separate areas. Of course, you will find a lot of small garden like areas when green plants are settled in order to provide tranquility and relaxing atmosphere in the site.
