Which Different Types of Buildings Can Steel Be Used For?

Posted by: Founterior , December 11, 2017

Using steel for building construction isn’t new, but it’s a growing trend for it’s flexibility, affordability, customisability, fire-proof materials, and due to it being eco-friendly (steel is 100% recyclable). Fortunately, there isn’t just one type of building being made using prefab steel components to put together a safe, viable structure that’s cheaper than wood and faster to build. Currently, it’s more a question of what structures cannot use steel as a base material?

Here’s a few ideas for the types of buildings where steel is the main material used.

Warehouses

Warehouses have been made from steel for many years. The sheer size of a warehouse makes it ideal for the open-plan nature of steel buildings before the interior plan is completed. The owners of a metal warehouse can build in mezzanine floors, different sections of the warehouse to make it easier to navigate around the huge space, and private offices for administrative workers.

The large steel gates can open to let new deliveries into the building or to send out the latest packages for a commercial courier or Royal Mail’s ParcelForce. It’s also easier to leave some doors open to create some air ventilation just as long as you have someone guard the entrance. You might even consider warehouse roof insulation to keep your warehouse well maintained and properly insulated.

Offices

Designing and building a new office is a time-consuming effort. You want to get everything right, but you don’t know whether the more changes you make to the design will cause a resulting delay in the building’s completion.

Structures organised by companies such as www.steelbuildings.co.uk offer creative freedom, through a large range of design choices, construction materials and useful specifics which also allow a building to be completed sooner than most office use structures.

Garages

Garages as steel framed buildings are great because the structure can be customised to fit a single car or as a multiple car garage. Steel buildings are expandable later too, so it’s possible to extend the garage back twice as long to fit more vehicles into it.

A garage can be designed as a modified car port with a covering but either side left open to the elements. Alternatively, the building can be enclosed with a front metal sliding door and side doors to gain access more easily. It’s up to the owner to decide what type of garage they want.

Farmer Storage

A building used as farmer storage is useful to store everything from hay to livestock. Being able to open the doors for easy access but also to lock them down when the building is unattended is one of the main benefits. The reflective nature of metal means there’s no danger of the building heating up causing livestock distress during the few weeks in the summertime when the UK is blessed with good weather.

Steel buildings for sale can be modified to create separate areas for livestock, grain, hay, working areas, and offices. Roofs are built to withstand strong weather conditions, so there’s little risk of it falling down onto the livestock because the weight of the roof is not bearing down on the structure.

The types of buildings discussed above only cover a small selection of what’s possible with steel pre-fabricated parts and eco-friendly designs. In many cases, a customer can request a building using steel that is an original idea or not often tried. It doesn’t really matter what the purpose of the building is; if it’s possible to construct it sensibly using galvanised steel, then no idea is a bad idea. It’s just a matter of coming up with a workable design using the available steel components to create a safe structure that fits the needs of the customer who is ordering it.
