MATERIA
Materia was established in 1992 by interior,-architects Kersti Sandin and Lars Bulow. The firm specializes in the production of furnishings for public spaces. Thanks to their consistent efforts in 2004, the office giant Kinnarps started offering their production on the market. Materia’s collection includes tables, arm chairs, chairs, sofas, tall stools and office accessories such as hangers, magazine stands, waste bins. They come to the rescue of companies, which attempt to set up creative, ergonomic and modem work spaces.
„We want our furniture to shape and encourage the dynamic processes that take place in the modern work place and we believe we can do this by having fun along the way“, Sanding and Below say.During the past few years the company has chosen a the path in the name of that goal, and started working with a new generation young designers.
The collaboration with the ladies from Front gave the ‘company a serious market break. Through that Marta Friman was presented. Five promising designers are the first In a series of new faces of Materia. Sanding and BElow explain about them: “First we give our designers lots of freedom to experiment with ideas, function and form. Then we find a way to realize their ideas. Our aim is that when the furniture eventually reaches its user, the creative spirit of the designer will still be apparent. Hopefully It will also be infectious.”
Creative impulse combined with careful study, respect to nature, and a mix of cutting edge technology and contemporary style, make Materia one of the best Swedish furniture companies. Deservedly its products have won a number of awards and are part of the collections of several design museums.
