Summer is coming – along with high temperatures and humid environments. This will want you to turn on your air-conditioner but before you do that, are you sure it is ready to do what is is supposed to do? It is significant to ensure that your AC is prepped for summers or you’ll be paying a lot, which you can save just by a little maintenance. Here is what you can do in order to be sure that your air-conditioner is all set for the next season to come.
Before you head on, be sure to disconnect the power from air-conditioner first.
Replace the Air-Filters
To avoid recirculation of dust, germs and allergens; be sure to replace your filters. During a long idle time, these filters gather a lot of disgusting things which you don’t want lurking around your house. You can find more information here clearviewplumbing.ca.
Clean the Condenser Coils
Once you have done the indoor maintenance of your air-conditioner, you’ll need to have a look at your condenser unit which resides outside your house. Since it is placed outdoors, it collects a lot of dust and debris from the surroundings.
Ideally, it should been covered with a condenser tarp to ensure safety, yet regular cleaning is still required. First, you have to unscrew and remove the top and side panels of the condenser. Be sure not to tug any electric wires that are attached to the fan. Use a nylon or soft brush to clean the coil, otherwise you might bent the fins. If you do that anyway, ensure that you have a fin comb with you, to straighten them out later.
Once you clean from the outside, vacuum the insides of the condenser coil. If you still find some debris stuck inside the coils, clean it off with a power sprayer. Be sure to cover electric parts of the condenser with garbage bag. Once you do that, lubricate the fan and reassemble the condenser to its original condition.
Check Coolant Lines
You should see whether coolant lines are covered with foam insulation or not. If you find some areas where insulation is frayed or missing, replace it with a new foam. The insulation will allow the air-conditioner to function properly, without losing energy.
Turn on the AC
Now it’s time to test the unit and see the moment of truth. Once you turn on your air-conditioner and switch the thermostat to COOL, you should feel your room a bit cooler than usual. If that is so, congratulations! If not, you should immediately turn off the AC and hire a professional to inspect any problems.
We hope these simple tips will help make your summers more comfortable.
