So, you finally have the pond kit at your home, and it’s time to install it. Once you did it – congratulations! The hardest part is already done. But, there are still some details that you have to take care of. After all, a pond is a great decoration, but in its current state, it looks empty. That’s why you have to purchase plants and fish. Ponds pumps are also an important thing to consider when you first get a pond for your home. There are many models to choose from which can make the process pretty difficult especially if you’re only looking for the best pond pumps. They will make it look more vibrant. Which fish type should you choose? It’s not an easy choice because they all have different living conditions. That’s why below you will find the best pond fish types for you. Hopefully, they will make your choice easier.
Common goldfish
Probably the most popular pond fish. What is the reason for that? The color, of course. There’s nothing more hypnotizing than watching your goldfish swimming here and there. There are many species of it, and they all have different sizes. Because of that, you will easily be able to pick one that suits your pool size the best. They are also a popular choice because they are very amiable. However, be careful – sometimes, the smaller goldfish varieties are eaten by bigger fish, for example, golden orfes. When you have goldish, make sure to keep the water temperature between 68-72 Fahrenheit degrees (20-22°C), and pH between 7.2 to 7.5.
Koi carp
People often go for it because of the original colors and patterns. You can get one of over 100 koi subspecies, so go for one that looks the best, in your opinion. When it comes to water requirements, they are not too demanding – they tolerate wide ranges of temperature, between 59-77 Fahrenheit degrees (15-25° C), and pH between 7.5 to 8. Keep in mind that they are pretty big; that’s why your pond should be 1 meter deep, at least.
Golden orfes
Just as koi carps, they need more space, because of their size – they can grow up to 3 feet. It’s perfect when your pond is at least one meter deep so that they can swim freely. They are very robust. They will do fine in both cold and warm water between 50-77 °F (10 to 25°C), and pH around 7.5.
Goldfish, koi carp, and golden orfes are only three suggestions, but the final decision is yours – go for those types that you like the most. Also, make sure to check out the infographic provided by Living Water Aeration, where you’ll find much useful information about ponds.
