Scott Architects decided to take advantage of an existing Victorian home in London and turn into a stunning contemporary architectural treasure where old classic concept meets the ultra modern approach. In fact, the project won the prize for “Best small house of the year” at The Sunday Times British Homes Awards 2013. The jury share their thoughts that the house is a spectacular example and, as they said, a lesson in architecture to learn. At the back of the house, there one can find the professional work on an unique curvaceous extension that creates the modern line of house’s appearance. This is a true contemporary building, yet preserving the character of the existing neighborhood. As a construction, it has been designed to be a part of the garden landscaping so that the use of timber cladding and green roof system was essential.
Inside the house you can observe how the raw brickwork blends with mild oak furnishings and this professional blend reveals a definite high possession of skills. It is also the starting pointed of a consequence of clean-lined interiors. Everything is trendy here – the lights, which have been chosen in order to preserve energy, the modern underfloor heating that keeps the atmosphere in appropriate temperature ranges, the sloping green roof. And it is not only modern but it is the essence of the sustainable approach for the building.
As a conclusion we must say that this is a beautiful example of how modern architecture can outline British heritage without neglecting the contemporary characteristics.
