VEILED LOOK
At the core of Esther Stocker’s wall and spatial installations are lattice structures and neutral colours-white, black and gray. He net as a graphic representation by presumption goes as a supporting method for greater precision in measuring, composing and positioning. Esthes uses it to achieve strong confusion. Her provocations play with the visual perception and question concepts like order and space. She claims that ”we know nothing about space”. What we know is that it is intrinsically connected to our capacity to visually perceive it. That is not however the only reason for her to create structures like these.
The net as a metaphor excites- the way recognizes elements from our environment is connected with a network of complex symbols. Stocker wants to provoke the one, and chaos is actually a component of order. In her words like ” transposition”, ” deviation”, ”confusion”, ”deformation”, ”change”, ”distortion”, and ” environment” are extremely important. She can confuse spectators by making the angles break, or by cutting a line at a certain point or by feeding their imagination with an intentionally left gap for them to fill.
