Although you have probably heard a lot about various government regulations that should limit the damage done to our planet, we could and should go the extra mile. If making sure that your children are able to grow old on this planet is one of your priorities, you should:
- Switch to LEDs. If you still use the old bulbs that both increase your electricity bills, while also harming our Mother Nature, then switching to eco-friendly ones should be one of the first things that you do. Even if you buy energy-saving lights, you should make sure that you don’t leave the lights on when it is unnecessary.
- Avoid using paper. Most probably, you have a lot of electronic devices – use them instead. There’s no need to print out your notes. Instead, upload them on your laptop or smartphone, so that you won’t be harming the trees. On top of that, it is less likely that you will lose your smartphone!
- Beware of the energy vampires. Some of the devices consume electric power even if you are not using them, and they are switched off. That’s why it is essential not to leave them plugged into the electric socket.
- Check whether there are no problems with insulation. Making sure that your home is adequately insulated is crucial both in winter and in summer. If there are problems that need to be fixed, your electricity bills will go up. You will need to use much more electricity to heat your house in the winter, whereas in the hotter months, cooling down the temperature will be a losing battle.
- You may have heard of Power to Choose electricity, which is a state-owned website set up to help Texans find the best electricity rates. It provides rate comparison information for electricity plans in Texas, and is controlled by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Energy providers list their electricity plans, and Power to Choose ranks their offers based on pricing.
