Realistically speaking, an aquarium can be a great addition to your room. With crystal-clear water, vibrant plants and corals, and beautiful species of fish, you can make your room cozier and more inviting with a fish tank. However, when it gets dirty with overgrown algae, murky water, and sickly fish, the whole thing becomes an eyesore. Because of this, it’s important to keep your fish tank clean at all times.

To get started with this process, below are the five cleaning tips to ensure a clean and sparkling aquarium in your room:

1, Use The Right Filter

One of the best ways of cleaning an aquarium is to use a filter that works best for the tank’s size and type. Typically, protein skimmer for the aquarium are important because they eliminate ammonia nitrates and dirt to maintain a healthy environment inside the tank.

Thus, if you want to keep your aquarium clean and your fishes healthy, then you should have a proper water filter that utilizes both biological and chemical filtration processes. This is to ensure the best combination of cleaning from start to finish. To maximize your filters’ efficiency, don’t forget to check them periodically to ensure they’re operating properly.

2, Change The Water Regularly

When the water becomes dirty, your aquarium can be unhealthy and less attractive for your fish. To minimize the accumulation of dirt inside the tank, it’s best to replace more or less 20 to 30 percent of the water on a regular basis.

When changing the water, you can use a gravel vacuum to make the process much easier and faster. Generally, gravel vacuums from reliable suppliers can help remove debris, wastes, and toxins from your fish tank. Hence, to find the right one for your aquarium, be sure to know every essential detail about this equipment from reliable online resources like FishLab.com. You can get in-depth information about the different gravel vacuum options you can use for cleaning your aquarium.

3, Soak Dirty Aquarium Decorations In A Bleach Solution

Over time, the decorations in your fish tank will accumulate some algae and scales, which make it dirty and unhealthy for your fishes. To avoid excessive accumulation of these wastes, it’s a good idea to soak these decorations in a 10% bleach solution for at least 15 minutes before you start scrubbing. Just be sure to rinse them carefully before you put them back to avoid water contamination That way, the aquarium decorations you place every holiday will look beautiful inside the tank.

4, Clean The Tank Itself

Another effective way to keep your aquarium polished is to clean the tank itself. To do this, you can apply a little elbow grease and use a scraper to eliminate excess algae accumulated on the glass. Also, you can remove dead leaves from the aquatic plants as well as algae from the decorations. By doing all of these things, you can keep your fish tank at its cleanest.

5, Add Some Fish Species That Eat Algae

To ensure the cleanliness of your tank from the inside, you may consider adding some specific fish species that eat algae to your collection. They can help eat away excessive algae, thereby making your aquarium clean and healthy. However, in introducing algae eaters, you need to ensure your addition is compatible with the existing fishes. For example, if you’re maintaining a saltwater tank, you can add turbo snails, tangs, and many more. If you’re keeping a freshwater tank, then plecostomus, sucking-catfish, and many others can be a good inclusion.

Final Thoughts

Indeed, there’s no easy way to take care of an aquarium. But, it doesn’t mean that keeping a fish tank that’s clean and thriving isn’t an impossible task. With little hard work and by following the tips mentioned above, your aquarium will look better and stay clean longer than you expect.
