The entrance to your home is particularly important. It says a lot about you. It establishes the tone, the mood, and the feel of your habitat. So often you walk into a home and just as you enter, you are wowed by what you see – you love what you sense. Sometimes, however, you enter a home, and you feel dejected, sad, and even gloomy. This is why it is so important to plan and design your entrance.
When you meet someone for the first time, you usually have about 30 seconds to make an impression. Well, it is the same in this instance as well. Your entrance is the first impression that you make when guests enter your home; and you want to create the right impact.
Following are pointers by interior designer Annette Frommer on how to create a notable and extraordinary entrance.
Lighting
Frommer believes that often lighting is overlooked. She has often been quoted as saying that “lighting influences the way we perceive a room and the way it makes us feel. It is crucial to give lighting its proper attention at the outset of any project.“ Frommer notes that statement lighting fixtures instantly transform any hallway or entrance. There is a vast array of options available from delicate crystal light fixtures, through beautiful, bold chandeliers, to modern ceiling lamps, pendant lights, and more.
Consoles
Frommer uses consoles in so many ways, especially in hallways and entrances. Consoles are so versatile, and as she points out “these long and narrow tables are perfect for large spaces and narrow spaces as well. You can dress a console up or down. Consoles with an open legged base are airy, consoles with details such as turned legs or cast resin offer interest. You can display objects on a console, place a tray, or create a harmonious composition by placing matching table lamps on each side. You can also use a console as the basis for a large mirror, or for a gorgeous piece of art. No matter what your vision is, consoles are a must!”
Colors
Frommer likes to use light colors, especially shades of white in an entryway. White catches and reflects natural light magnificently and opens up the space creating a spacious and inviting ambience.

To conclude
The entrance is such an important aspect when designing your home. Do not underestimate its significance. There are endless options when designing this area, so express yourself! And remember – the entrance/foyer is the first room your guests see, it is the first impression that your home makes and it sets the tone and mood in an instant.
