How to create an urban jungle in a small space?

In an urban countryside, every green spot is like a breeze of fresh air. And what about creating one in your apartment? Here are some ideas for greening your space without making it feel smaller.

For a few decades, we wouldn’t pay that much attention to plants in the interior design – but with a comeback of boho esthetics and a rise of eco trends, this tendency has reversed. As a result of this green renaissance, plant studios have started appearing on every corner, and the demand for beautifully crafted ceramics and macramé for plant purposes has increased. And aside from stimulating some economic sectors, this trend has made us more conscious of how the plants influence our wellbeing. They produce oxygen, maintain humidity, and purify the air, making us feel better in a particular space.

But what to do once your living room or bedroom is small? How to arrange the plants without occupying the precious space? We’ve prepared some tips for you.

#1 Hang the plants

There are various accessories for hanging to choose from – from macrame plant hangers to baskets and minimalist metal hangers. It’s worth mixing these if you want to achieve an eclectic, boho effect. In order to hang the plants, you can use expansion bars or hooks attached to the wall. Another interesting idea is to attach a pallet or a single wood beam to the wall, applying the hooks to them. This way, you won’t damage the structure of the wall.

#2 Level the plants

Putting the plants on the floor is not the best idea for two reasons. First – they occupy precious space. Second – the light doesn’t reach them, which may affect their health, unless they’re one of the shade-loving species (like Primrose or Foam flower). Leveling them is a great strategy. You can buy multi-leveled stands that are designed to provide the plants with light from each side. They should have a frame construction to occupy the least space and let the light flow. Avoid placing your plants on the encapsulated shelves since they won’t develop properly.

#3 Use the climbing plants

If you want to have a mini jungle at home, vines are obligatory. Not all are suitable for the interiors, but there are many species you can grow inside. If you want a plant that grows with light speed, go for Epipremnum. Monstera Deliciosa is another vine that catches the eye and grows at a relatively fast pace. It will definitely give your room a jungle vibe.

If you’re looking for decorators London has a lot to offer, but for greening the space, make sure that a professional you hire has plant-related knowledge! This way, you can create a beautiful composition that actually lasts!
