How to: keep your workplace smelling great
You’ve created a glistening workspace, an ergonomic environment that makes your employees sigh with relief when they start their working day. There are relaxation spaces next to the pristine reception area, sunlight creeping in on those long summer days, sturdy desks that scream luxury, and a series of pictures that inhabit your office with a calm and easy-going personality.
But one area of your workplace is letting the side down – and it’s causing a hefty pong.
The smell around your office is stinking out the joint. It’s a stench worse than a marathon runner’s used shorts, a nose-tighteningly horrific smell that could knock out someone with anosmia.
And the result of this horrific scent can be manifold. You’ll end up with unproductive staff, unimpressed clients and an office that people would rather not set foot in.
A bad smell is bad for business, so how do you solve the problem? For a start, try a few of these tips.
Know your hygiene
There’s always one, isn’t there? One person in your office, let’s call them Dave, who smells stronger than a patch of rotten onions. They’ve never heard of deodorant and they treat handwash with the kind of suspicion usually reserved for communists in the 50s.
Dave’s got to be stopped if you want your office to regain its scent of class, but you can’t reprimand him directly.
Confronting someone about their personal hygiene is a sensitive issue, so it’s best to inform everyone via email that they might want to consider spraying a little extra deodorant in the morning. Maybe then you can remove that clothes peg from your nose.
Freshen things up
If your workplace is next to a restaurant or a supermarket, then keeping noxious smells outside might not be an option. The scent of dodgy foodstuffs or off-vegetables will snake into your office the moment you open a window.
These smells contain bacteria that could infect your office, increasing the sick days of employees, and that’s why you need a commercial air freshener to exterminate shoddy pongs in an instant.
We’re talking about more than a can of Glade. A commercial air freshener, when bought from the right company, will actively make your workplace smell better AND more hygienic.
If you really want to splash out, get involved with scent marketing to find a fragrance that perfectly fits your company’s brand.
Don’t shirk rubbish
The rubbish in your wastepaper basket is piling up. Rotten apple cores, discarded banana skins and soiled paper over-brims like a boiled kettle that’s been filled to the spout. After a while, all that rubbish will ruin your office with its stench.
