Turn Your Bedroom Into a Sleep Sanctuary in 6 Easy Steps

Posted by: Founterior , July 31, 2022

Are you having trouble sleeping at night? Do you find yourself tossing, turning, or waking up in the middle of the night? If so, your bedroom may not be conducive to a good night’s sleep. To get the best sleep possible, you need to create a sleep sanctuary – a space that is calm, relaxing, and free from distractions. Here are six simple steps to turn your bedroom into a sleep sanctuary.

Get Rid of Any Electronics

It is essential to eliminate anything that could be causing noise or light pollution to create a calm and distraction-free environment. This includes things like televisions, radios, and computers. If you must keep electronics in your bedroom, turn them off for at least an hour before you go to bed.

Generally, there is no harm in having them so long as you are not using them right before sleep. If possible, disconnect any cords and move them away from the bed, so they are not in your line of sight. This will help you to avoid being tempted to use them when you should be sleeping.

Invest in a Good Mattress and Pillows

If your mattress is old and lumpy, or your pillows are flat and uncomfortable, it’s time to invest in some new bedding. Look for a firm but not too hard mattress and pillows that support your head and neck. Target something comfortable to sleep on that will give your body the support it needs. Anytime you go shopping, lie down on the mattress for at least 10 minutes to get a good feel. Most importantly, read reviews from other buyers.

In addition to a comfortable mattress and pillows, you may consider investing in a mattress topper or pillow protector. These can help to extend the life of your bedding and keep it clean and fresh for longer.

Create a Relaxing Atmosphere

The atmosphere of your bedroom should be calm and relaxing. To create this environment, you will want to choose soothing colors for your walls and bedding. Blue and green are good choices, as they are known to promote relaxation. You may also want to consider using lavender-scented candles or diffusers to help you relax.

The temperature is also critical, besides the colors and scents in your bedroom. The ideal bedroom temperature for sleeping is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit. Getting a good night’s sleep can be challenging if your bedroom is too hot or cold.

Keep the Bedroom Clean and Clutter-Free

A cluttered and messy bedroom can be very distracting and make it difficult to relax. Keeping the space clean and free of clutter is vital to creating a calm and relaxing environment. Make sure to put away any clothes or shoes, and take the time to dust and vacuum regularly.

It can also be helpful to invest in some storage containers or baskets to help keep things organized. By keeping the bedroom clean and clutter-free, you will create a more peaceful environment that is conducive to sleep.

Limit Noise Pollution

Noise can be a significant disruptor of sleep. If you live in a city, chances are you are used to hearing sirens and car horns all night. While there is not much you can do about external noise pollution; there are some things you can do to reduce the noise level in your bedroom.

Invest in a white noise machine or download a white noise app on your phone. This will help to mask any external noise and make it easier to fall asleep. You may also want to consider earplugs if the noise is particularly disruptive.

Decorate With Artwork and Plants

In addition to being soothing and relaxing, specific colors and images can also help to promote sleep. Decorating your bedroom with artwork or plants that promote relaxation can be a great way to turn it into a sleep sanctuary. Some good choices for artwork include nature scenes or landscapes. For plants, consider lavender, jasmine, or chamomile. These plants are known for their relaxing properties and can help you to drift off to sleep more easily.

Besides, it would be best if you positioned them in a way that doesn’t impede foot traffic or make it difficult to get in and out of bed. An excellent way to do it is to put them on your nightstands or dressers. When it comes to art pieces, you can hang them on the wall or prop them up on a shelf. Ensure they’re at eye level so you can appreciate them in bed. If you have young children, it’s best to put any breakable items out of their reach.

Creating a sleep sanctuary doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Following these simple tips, you can transform your bedroom into a space conducive to rest. You can enjoy a more profound, restful sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated with a little effort.
