Trees are lovely additions to any property. They’re nice to look at and they offer plenty of benefits for your home, wildlife, and the environment. Whether you rely on them for shade or you simply want to enhance your home design, these natural resources can make any landscape all the more inviting. Here are a few reasons you should plant more trees on your property.

They Regulate Your Home’s Temperature

Did you know that adding trees and vegetation around your home can effectively lower its surface and indoor temperature? They do this by shading your home to protect it from the heat rays of the sun. The leaves of the trees also release water into the air, which can help reduce your home’s indoor temperature by 10 degrees. This means you won’t have to blast the AC as often, and you’ll likely see a 15 percent decrease in your heating bill.

They Add Beauty to Your Landscape

Boost your home’s visual appeal and value by surrounding your property with unique species of trees. For instance, native to West Central Florida are the Florida red maple, Italian cypress, and flowering trees such as dogwood, Jacaranda, mimosa, and crape myrtle. No matter which natural resources you choose, however, adding a touch of greenery to your home makes it a more welcoming space and enhances its overall beauty.

They Act as a Safe Haven for Wildlife

When you plant trees, you help nurture homes for the local wildlife. From the budding leaves and branches to the lovely flowers, seeds, nuts, and fruits, trees offer many benefits for varying species of animals, birds, and insects. In Florida, red buckeye attracts hummingbirds with its red blooms in spring, while other birds, bees, and squirrels thrive in sycamore and oak trees.

They provide shade and shelter for some, while others call these natural resources their home. You can do your part to promote a healthy and safe habitat for wildlife by planting different trees around your home, providing a water source like a small pond or bird bath, and including bird feeders with fresh seeds, birdhouses, and bat houses.

They Help the Environment

Trees do more than just protect your home and wildlife; they help fight climate change. As carbon dioxide emissions continue to rise in the atmosphere, trees provide a way to offset some of the effects. They do this by capturing and storing carbon dioxide and releasing clean oxygen back into the air.

You can also live and breathe a little easier, thanks to the leaves and barks of trees that trap airborne contaminants. Aside from carbon dioxide, these plants absorb odors and pollutant gases such as ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides, all of which can have a damaging effect on your respiratory health.

As you can tell, there are many benefits to planting trees around your property. From giving your home some extra shade and enhancing your landscape to creating a shelter for animals and tackling airborne pollutants, trees are a great way to improve your environment.
