4 Things You Didn’t Know a Locksmith Could Do

Posted by: Founterior , September 28, 2020

Locksmiths are often misunderstood as the guys who fetch keys, magically unlock doors, and save people from the perils of keys that are lost, forgotten, or just sitting right there on the driver’s seat after you’ve closed and locked the doors.

While they can do all of this, there is also a lot more that a locksmith service can provide. For starters, locksmiths are generally trained to work with ALL locks. Thus, even if someone is a car locksmith, they will probably also know how to rekey locks on a home or how to change out a lock entirely. Of course, this depends on the service that you choose. But again, that’s the point—there are a lot of different services that a locksmith can provide. Here are four that you might not know about:

  1. Deadbolt Installations: In home construction, details like deadbolts can get overlooked. This results in improper installation or no deadbolt at all. A locksmith can install the best deadbolt and ensure it’s done correctly to secure your home.
  2. Rekeying Locks: If you want to ensure that your locks are secure, you can have them rekeyed. This is also done when keys are lost, and new keys need to be made. It’s easy for a locksmith to rekey locks so that you don’t have to replace the entire unit.
  3. Key Copies: Although it’s not as efficient as going to your local hardware store or key kiosk, locksmiths can make copies of home and vehicle keys. Even the ones that dealers claim can’t be duplicated can be made by professional locksmiths when yours are lost or damaged.
  4. Safety Audit: Locksmiths can also perform a safety audit of your home’s locks, doors, and windows to ensure that everything is in the best condition possible. They will be able to give you advice on what needs fixed or updated or if your home is already secure enough.

Next time you think to call a locksmith, you’ll have a lot more reasons to do so. These are just a few of the many uncommon services they can provide, so be sure to ask and see what your locksmith can do.
