Pes’s multi-cultural collections include an eighteenth- century Syrian chest inlaid with ivory, mother-of-pearl and silver displaying antique incised crystal bottles.
‘It pleases me to present the antique with a greater sense of creativity, mixing styles and periods,’ Pes says. A corner of the grand salon features a combination of Arab and classical European traditions: an English eighteenth-century Arab portrait, a nineteenth-century French gilded bronze clock and a small eighteenth-century writing chest inlaid with ivory, ebony and olive woods in Arab motifs.
Expansive floor-to- ceiling glass walls open the grand salon to the sea, framed by Corinthian columns. Billowing draperies and white slipcovers on the large sofas Pes designed add to the luxurious setting. The Roman-style fireplace displays antique plates, and a Turkish glass-and-brass lamp decorates the ceiling.
