What’s the Best Kind of Paint to Use for Your Home?

Posted by: Founterior , May 3, 2022

When painting your home, you will have a lot of different options and considerations to factor into the process. Professional house painters are going to help get the job done quickly and professionally, but they can’t tell you how to choose paint or exactly what’s right for your tastes. They can help you better understand the different types of paints, including what the finishes mean, where each is best used, and so forth.

The Most Common Types of Paints

When it comes to house painting, the most common types of paint products available include:

  • Oil-based and water-based paints
  • Interior and exterior paints (specifically for interior or exterior use)
  • Enamel paints, also known as oil-based
  • Latex paint
  • Acrylic paint, which is available in latex, enamel, or latex enamel blend
  • Specialty paints for anti-mould, fire retardant, and anti-condensation

Ultimately, you’ll want to choose durable paint that will provide the look that you want. Along with paint types, you’ll also have to consider the finish. For example, some people like the look of a matte finish or flat finish, but in the bathroom, a gloss might be better for handling the constant moisture.

How to Choose

Think about where you are painting and what type of paint would work best. If you aren’t sure, consult with your painters and they’ll be able to help you pick the right products. Choose paints that will be durable and provide plenty of years of enjoyment. Cheap paint means you’ll have to repaint more often and probably use more paint in the first place, so it’s not worth trying to save a few bucks. Always go for the better paint when you can.

Typically, oil-based paints are best for outdoor use, while water-based or acrylic paints are best for indoor use. You may also need primers to put under the paint and those are available in various formulas, as well as for interior and exterior use. As mentioned, it’s best to work with house painters who can help you choose the best paints for any job, no matter what kind of painting you need to do.
