3 Different Kinds of Lighting Atmospheres

Lighting in your home can completely change the mood of the room its placed in. From making the room bright, bubbly, and a happy place to be, to making it a little more romantic for a special occasion, to making it even somewhat depressing if you don’t do it right. Here are three different kinds of lighting atmospheres — both the good and the bad ones — brought to you in part by New Edge Group electrical contractors.

Natural Lighting

3 Different Kinds of Lighting Atmospheres: Natural Lighting

Lots of windows means lots of natural light, especially in the spring and summertimes when the sun is out for much longer. If you can take advantage of this, you should. Big windows where the blinds are open during the day will help create a great and happy atmosphere in your home. You will feel much better and much more productive during your day at home, and not to mention, you won’t be spending nearly as much on electrical bills if you’re taking advantage of natural lighting given to you by nature’s blessing.

Low Mood Lighting (or just not enough light)

Closed windows during the day, no overhead lighting, and the use of lamps that aren’t very powerful don’t add up well. While lamps can be used to create a nice, and cozy atmosphere at night, during the day this can lead to many problems. It can lead to strained eyes when working, and it can lead to some depressive thoughts and emotions. Keeping the room dark at almost all times is bad for your health, and not to mention, it just doesn’t make your room look welcoming at all. It can also make it seem like your home isn’t very clean — if it’s dark in your rooms …are you hiding something?

Cozy, Warm Rainy-Day Lighting

On those spring and summer days where the rain is pouring outside can block out a lot of sun. If you want to add to that atmosphere, there’s some ways you can do it via your lighting. Using the natural light you can get access to by opening up your blinds does still create a nice tone in your room.

But because the natural light won’t be as strong as it would be on a cloud-free day, you can put on a few lamps. This will not use up as much energy as turning on your overhead lighting would, and it can still make the room feel warm. To add to this atmosphere even further, use warm lightbulbs to add some warmth into the room via some colour. On top of this, you can also use candles to give the room a little more of a romantic ambiance.

Lighting in your home is incredibly important, and how you use it can effect your mood, your productivity, and even your thoughts. So keep that in mind as you look to purchase a home, or if you go to redo your lighting in your own home. Identify what kind of lighting atmosphere works best for you and go with that.
