5 ways to Keep Your AC’s in Good Condition

Posted by: Founterior , September 25, 2018

Maintaining your home air conditioning unit is very important. Ideally, you should avoid waiting until something goes wrong as this might cost you a lot of money. Air conditioners are devices that require proper care and regular maintenance just like the other mechanical equipment. Regularly checking your unit is the best way of maximizing the system’s airflow, thereby improving its operation and efficiency. Having a system that is well-maintained can also help you in decreasing energy cost, repair costs, improving air quality, increasing its lifespan, and making your home more comfortable.

Project managers and homeowners can get the best services by hiring reputable HVAC technicians. AS Aircon is one of the best companies that offer perfect solutions for commercial and residential needs. Their technicians can help you with fixing issues affecting your air conditioning unit. This company has a team of experts who have been in this field for more than 16 years. Their factory-trained, experienced technicians have been providing these services in Franklin, Hopkins, and the surrounding areas. You can enjoy the services of these experts by contacting them on their official website.

The following are the useful tricks and steps of maintaining an air conditioning system:

Shutting Off Power

It is very dangerous to work around the moving parts of an air conditioner and when power is on. It is, therefore, important to make sure that the power is completely turned off before working on your unit. For indoor units, power is turned off at the unit’s breaker box. On the exterior compressor/condenser, power is turned off at the unit’s shut-off box.

Removing Debris

This is done by first removing the fan cage on the exterior compressor/condenser. A wrench or screwdriver is used to remove the fasteners before lifting the fan grill or cage from the AC unit. Debris such as dry leaves is removed from the interior with a dry/wet vacuum or by hand.

Cleaning The Fins

The outer cover should remove to facilitate this process. A powerful shop vacuum or brush attachment is then used to remove the outside dirt. Built-up debris and dirt are removed by spraying through the fins using a garden hose. Pressure washers should be avoided as they damage the unit’s fins. A commercial cleaning spray is used for cleaning the fins that are particularly dirty.

Straightening The Fins

Bent fins are carefully straightened using a commercially fin-strengthening toll or a butter knife. You should be very careful not to avoid damaging the embedded tubing within the fins. Bent fins can lead to a reduction in airflow, thereby reducing the system’s efficiency.

Cleaning The Area Around The AC Unit

All the debris and back leaves outside the condenser should be raked immediately after cleaning the unit and replacing the fan cage. Cutting the vegetation and back branches around the unit is done to improve airflow around the AC unit. Additionally, it is essential to make sure that the top cover of the unit is covered during winter when the AC system is not in use, but care should be taken not to cover the sides of the unit as this can lead to the build-up of moisture. Build up of moisture is one of the leading causes of corrosion.

Following the steps outlined above can help in maintaining your AC unit and increasing its lifespan. Well-maintained units are known for working more efficiently as compared to those that are neglected. You can also benefit from the AC warranty by taking care of your AC equipment. Other parts that require servicing and routine checks up include electrical system, pressure and coolant measurements, the condenser, evaporator coils, and thermostats.
