How to Keep Your Kitchen Clean and Ready for Company

Everyone loves a clean, organized kitchen with everything neatly put in its place. Basically, a kitchen is an area where food is prepared and cooked, and it’s therefore very mandatory that it’s kept clean to prevent the outbreak of diseases related to hygiene.

We’re going to list down some of the easiest ways you can keep your kitchen clean and ready to prepare food for your guests, or just in case you have company. You don’t want your kitchen looking all cluttered, stuffed up, and untidy.

You need to start in a clean kitchen. You don’t want to start cooking with a massive pile of dirty dishes on your sink and messy spills all over your kitchen counter. You should make time every once in a week to thoroughly clean up your kitchen, so that you won’t have so much cleaning to do daily.

Keep your kitchen counter clean all the time. Make sure you clean spills as soon as they occur. Doing so won’t only reduce your cleaning workload at the end of your cooking, but will also make your kitchen look less untidy even if the dishes are still piled up in the kitchen sink.

Keep your kitchen counter clear. A clear countertop leaves your kitchen looking neat and clutter-free. The only things you should leave on your countertop are just essential items, such as a cutting board or a salt cellar. Don’t leave your keys or newspaper on the countertop.

Take one out, put one back in. Also known as the ‘don’t put it down, put it away rule,’ this is the best strategy for keeping your kitchen de-cluttered. Perhaps you can look at it this way – put one item back in its place after using before taking out another. Through this, you’ll have more space and less clutter.

Empty the trash can. Regularly emptying your trash can should be the first kitchen hygiene rule. Always remove trashes as soon as they accumulate in your trash can. This will help keep away flies and other insects and pests that carry around bacteria. Remember, you must clean up the trash can after emptying it to ensure no infection-causing microorganisms are left inside.

Read expiry dates and remove all unwanted leftovers. Check the expiry dates on all the food products you have in your kitchen. Make sure you throw away the expired ones. Checking the dates will also help you know which ones you should use first. Remove all unwanted leftovers from previous meals, and properly store the ones that are still consumable.

Re-stock your shelves with dry, canned, or frozen ingredients. Since you’re expecting company, it’s advisable to try out canned, frozen, or dry foodstuff and ingredients. Dry mixes and canned vegetables, for instance, are quite easy to prepare. You won’t have to go through all the preparation workload, such as cleaning and chopping the veggies. Your kitchen will also be less messy.

Also, you might want to stock up snacks, and let your guests grab a bite while the food is being cooked. Click here for some delicious cheese balls.
