How to Pack Delicate Mirrors For House Move?

During a house move, some items are easier to pack than others. However, packing up large mirrors and delicate picture frames can be quite challenging.

These items can easily get damaged during the hustle and bustle of the relocation process.

To avoid any damage to your expensive mirror-based furniture items, follow these 5 tips for an amazing experience.

Gather all necessary packing supplies

Gather various sizes of cardboard boxes, moving blankets, sturdy boxes, newspaper, bubble wraps, and wooden crates for packing mirrors.

Depending on the size and shape of your mirror, you will need different packing supplies:

  • Use bubble wrap to pack small and medium mirrors such as frames.
  • For odd-shaped decorative items, use bubble blankets and for extra protection, use cardboard boxes
  • For very large dressing mirrors, use an extra layer of a wool blanket on top of bubble wrap.
  • Use wooden crates for expensive mirrors and pictures.

Above all, fill in empty spaces in the boxes with newspapers to avoid any shocking movement of items.

2. Label the boxes

Amidst packing and moving, people often forget to label boxes and damage their valuable items.

Regardless of which type of mirror you are packing, don’t’ forget to label it as “Fragile” or “Breakable”.

This will make it easy for you to move, load and unload such boxes with extra care and attention.

It’s advisable to contact a professional moving company to do the packing and moving job for you. Visit the link https://www.cbdmovers.com.au/cheap-movers-canberra/ and ask for a moving quote.

3. Mind the corners

When it comes to packing a mirror, you need to be more careful with edges rather than just the surface.

Corners of mirrors are quite vulnerable to moving and shipping damage so they need a little extra care.

Cardboard corner guards or protectors are an excellent choice to protect glass and mirror edges during moving.

4. Use styrofoam

Styrofoam is one of the best and effective packing supplies for mirrors.

All you have to do is:

  • place thick styrofoam or sheets of cushion foam on the front and back of the mirror
  • put cardboard pieces over the foam
  • cushion the entire bundle with bubble wrap
  • secure everything in place with high-quality packing tape

It will add an extra layer of protection to the mirrors.

5. Invest in masking tape

Also known as painter’s tape, masking tape is a type of pressure-sensitive adhesive that can be used for cushioning and protecting mirrors.

  • Take some masking tape and make a large “X” across the face of the mirror from corner to corner
  • Fix cardboard the same as the size of the object on the mirror
  • Wrap the item with packing paper and then with bubble wrap
  • Secure the whole arrangement with tape

While masking tape will not prevent major breakage, it will keep broken pieces in place if your mirror gets damaged while moving.

In the end…

Packing mirrors is not an easy job.

However, by following the above mirror packing tips, your valuable possessions can survive any house move perfectly.

Happy Moving!
