This year, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve festivities are certainly going to look a little different. However, that doesn’t mean that they can’t be extremely fun – or memorable! Due to certain restrictions during the global pandemic, none of us are allowed to go to our favourite bars, eat at gorgeous restaurants or attend fabulous parties to celebrate making it to the end of 2020.
Instead of going out this New Year’s Eve, we will be looking to host parties with the friends and family that we live with. If you are hoping to make over your living space to celebrate the end of this crazy year, allow us to help. Here is some inspiration on how to throw a fantastic bash for your loved ones, in your very own lounge or dining room.
Stock up on the decorations
In your own home, you can decorate it however you like. If that means huge banners, gold and silver balloons, confetti, and make-your-own photo wall, then so be it!
Treat yourself to a fancy outfit
If there is one night of the year you can go all out, it’s New Year’s Eve. For the last ten months, the majority of us have been sat around in loungewear, so it’s time to get spruced up. Ladies: treat yourself to a sequin dress, bouncy blow-dry and sky-high heels. After all, you’ll only be at home, so when your feet get tired, you can take them off. Men: it’s time to dust the suit in the back of wardrobe and look suave.
Make a playlist of your favourite tunes
Dancing helps to life spirits, so if you’re in the mood for bopping around the living room, you are going to need some good tunes. Before New Year’s Eve, put together a playlist of your favourite songs, and designate a DJ for the evening.
Get the games down from the loft
Are your friends and family competitive? If so, you might all enjoy a game or two while you party. From Twister and Jenga to Cards of Humanity and Charades, these games will help you all to loosen up.
Make your own cocktails
New Year’s Eve calls for some classic cocktails! If your home bar is fully stocked, then it’s time to mix a drink. Whether you’re a Negroni, Margarita, Manhattan, Espresso Martini or Bourbon Old-Fashioned kind of person, there are so many recipes to choose from – which means you’ll never be spoilt for choice.
Prepare some tasty nibbles
Rather than spending hours in the kitchen preparing a three-course menu, why not make a few nibbles for everyone to enjoy? Chilli and marmalade glazed pork belly squares, smoked salmon and chive vol au vents and mini chipotle bean and cheese quesadillas will no doubt go down a treat.
Keep your camera handy
This year has been completely different from any other we’ve ever known. While some of us may want to forget about it, others want to capture the special moments it has brought. Spending time with your nearest and dearest on New Year’s Eve is definitely a plus, so make sure that you take lots of photos during the evening to look back on in years to come.
