10 easy ways to save money when decorating

Posted by: Founterior , July 26, 2018

Though you might be brimming with fun ideas for how you could decorate your home, whether your budget stretches to all of the expenditure that would be necessary can be a very different question.

Fortunately, there are various ways of cutting the cost but not the style – here are some examples.

From the start, narrow down your budget

This can help you to sort the nice-to-haves from the have-to-haves. For example, with limited finance at your disposal, you could prioritise buying a few major centrepieces, says Freshome.

Take inspiration from free resources

Your living room could already be littered with magazines full of pictures of exciting interior designs. Those periodicals could inspire you, as could TV shows and the internet – all of which are free!

Make a positive entrance

Your objective here should be ensuring that, as guests enter your home, they immediately pick up on your style sense. To help ensure this, you could keep your keys or mail in decorative baskets and reduce clutter in a foyer space to let it aesthetically excel.

Give your current furniture a makeover

If the colours and styles of your existing furniture look dated, you could update that furniture through re-upholstering it. Another idea is applying fresh paint to headboards and mirror frames that, right now, look as though they have seen better days. You can also unleash your quilting skills and create some beautiful throw pillow covers to change the look of your living room sets. Don’t forget to use the quilting iron before presenting your creation in aesthetic style.

Rearrange how your furniture is laid out

Even before your furniture gets any kind of visual refresh, you could be pleasantly surprised by how much better it looks when you simply move it around. This could include switching the room’s focal point from an accent wall to a fireplace – for example – before accordingly rearranging other pieces.

Take the DIY approach with your cushions

Given the dauntingly high expense of buying decorative cushions these days, you could easily see the appeal of making your own instead. Choose the fabric and, if you don’t like sewing, use fabric glue to attach the different pieces of a cushion together, House Beautiful suggests.

Get that router out of the way

Strictly, though, you don’t need to take it too far. Putting an ugly Wi-Fi router inside a hollowed out book could suffice for keeping the technology’s functionality but not its unsightliness.

Ask family and friends for old furniture

Your loved ones could have some long-neglected pieces just gathering dust in a garage or other storage space. They probably won’t object to you taking those pieces and revamping them.

Disguise aesthetic blotches

Has your carpet recently picked up some noticeable stains that won’t go away no matter how hard you scrub? For now, you could lay a rug across that stain. Furthermore, in doing so, you could find that the rug improves the room’s overall look in other, less expected ways.

Blur the break between the indoors and outdoors

You can do this by decorating your indoor spaces with such organic products as wood and greenery. Meanwhile, aluminium bi fold doors could be installed in place of a wall to open it up.
