Posted by: Ella Andrews , April 15, 2015

Your bedroom can fit in a cupboard in a living room? You can reach your kitchen countertop from your couch? Your guests come to your place and ask you where the rest of your apartment is? Whether you live in little studio apartment or simply want to make the most of your teeny – tiny room, you need to get creative and unconventional…and to spare time for some house cleaning. A small space is not a life – long sentence. You can turn its disadvantages in your favour and create a truly unique decor.

5 Surprising Ways To Maximise Your Space2Zone It
Functionality is a key element when you have limited space. To create a fully efficient living space, you need to consider the task of each room. Think about the things you do in there like sleeping, eating, working or relaxing. Then divide the area in different zones depending on those activities. It is essential to ensure a smooth transition in your place. Create a floor plan that will allow moving freely. Be cautious about awkwardly positioned furniture.

5 Surprising Ways To Maximise Your Space3Go Big
Bigger but fewer furnishings is ideal for a living place with modest size. This may seem like an odd idea, but filling your home with small pieces will visually shrink it. Strive for furniture that is flexible and can serve double – duty. Look for table that can be both a working desk and a dining table. Having people coming over often? Daybeds can double as guest beds. Find furniture with little hiding place that will work as storage. Make each piece count. Get items that can be rearranged or transformed like folding chairs, collapsible and flip tops. Invest in wireless technology. Don’t clutter your home with the messy cables of your gadgets.

Use Proper Lightening
Lightening is a crucial feature that can completely transform a room. Let as much natural light as possible. Remove the heavy curtain and replace them with window treatments that allow the penetration of the sunshine. If you don’t have enough natural light sources, equip your home with artificial ones. A well designed home will have three basic types of lights – ambient, task and general. When properly lit, your little place will feel more spacious.

Add Visual Continuity
Even – toned rooms can create the illusion that they are larger. Keep this in mind when you select your colour scheme. White and other neutrals are an all- time classic. Be sure that your furnishing and other details are in the same tones. If you want to create a contrast, incorporate deep and intense colours.
Go for vertical. Choose wallpaper with lines that go from top – to – bottom. They will add accent, while visually enlarging your space. The same goes for storage as well. Add shelving that will blend with the whole interior.

Edit
Clutter is one of the things that can really make your small home look even tinier. Take time for regular cleaning. Keep your place uncluttered. By cleaning your area and leaving only the essentials your place will have room to breathe.
