When I found myself leaving college and transitioning into adulthood, there came a moment that I was unprepared for — finding bed sheets. As a kid, and even into the early portion of my 20s, bedsheets were a “non-factor.” In essence, I did not care or give any of my mental energy to the sheets I rested my head on every night. If there was something between myself and the mattress, I was good to go!
But when I could not rely on my mother to pick out my bedspread, I destroyed my sleep schedule on account of wrestling my sheets all night. For readers who want the perfect night’s sleep, here’s why custom bed sheets are an absolute must-have.
Thread Count
Being a computer science student, the only time I used the term “thread count” was when speaking about CPU load. However, I soon realized the difference between a crummy sleeping experience and one that left me feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day was, for the most part, related to thread count.
Without getting too detailed, thread count means the number of threads the creator uses in a 1-inch by 1-inch section. The higher the thread count, the softer and smoother your sleep will be. The lower the thread count is, the more likely you are to wrestle and fight your sheets during the night.
After sampling and testing tens of sheets and finding nothing that fit my needs, I switched to a custom solution, and I have not looked back since! If you are like me and need focus and energy to complete work-related projects and tasks, it starts with your sleeping arrangement.
Customization
More importantly, custom bedding allowed me to express my creative side in the bedroom. With standard, run-of-the-mill bedding, you are getting what everyone else has. I cannot tell you how many times I went to a friend’s house only to find out they are using the same sheets as two of my other friends. Custom sheets also allow you to design and specify colorways, patterns and materials that suit the rest of your room. For me, this was a critical selling point.
Like a Glove
If you are like me, you have bought sheets online or from the store only to notice the bagginess and droopy sag of the material around the edges of your mattress. Thinking you have made a mistake; you grab the package and see what size you bought. To your surprise, they are the correct size, but the sheets fit like a clown walking around with pockets filled with bowling pins. Do not be like me; use bed sheets customized to your mattress’ dimensions.
Making the Switch
Call me picky, but I will never use substandard sheets again. For me, it is all about getting a great night’s sleep with sheets that are gentle on my skin and forgiving when I toss and turn. If I’m going to spend 25-years of my life in slumber, using custom bed sheets is a “no-brainer.”
