Four Interior Decorating Tips For Beginners

Posted by: Founterior , December 5, 2021

When it comes to making your house feel like a home, you may be struggling to come up with ideas. Once you have moved your furniture in and unpacked your belongings, your home may feel like just a house. You may struggle with the theme and design. Is functionality more important than style? Your style does not have to be compromised by function. Pulling a room together is not easy, but many interior designers help homeowners every day to accomplish this goal. You may have painted your walls or renovated your house but do not know how to accessorize with your wholesale home decor. Here are the top four inexpensive interior design tricks that will help make your house feel like a home.

1. Plan First, Shop Later

It is easy to get lost shopping on home decor websites. You will see the perfect accent piece and imagine a room developing around the piece. This is backward thinking. You want to take proper steps to fully plan any design. You should first think of the colour scheme. It is helpful to have an idea board. On this board, you can add prints, colours, and patterns you favour. It will help you get a good understanding of your ideas and design direction.

2. Take Time to Measure

Before purchasing furniture, you should take the time to measure your room. If you have a large living room, you may want a footstool. An awkwardly shaped living room may need small sectional or accent chairs. Furniture is the main statement of each room. You should think about having a balance between large and small furniture pieces. You will not want clunky furniture taking up all of your walking space and fighting for dominance in one room. Measuring a room before purchasing expensive furniture pieces will help you to better organize and shop accordingly.

3. Lighting Is Important

Smaller areas of your home do not have to feel small. Light colours will create a wider feeling of space. Before determining what colour to paint your walls, you should get sample paint patches to hang in the room. A light beige in the store under fluorescent lighting will appear different in the natural lighting of your home. Do you have windows to allow sunlight in? Is the room lit by a main centre light fixture? The texture and look of the paint differ greatly on how the light reflects off of the colour. Painting walls a darker colour will make a large space feel smaller.

4. Accessories Versus Clutter

Accessorizing a room should be the last step in your decorating process. Wholesale home decor stores such as Abbott Wholesale and websites can help anyone shop for home decor products on a budget. Home decor products should accent your style and theme. It should not overpower the room. Mirrors, vases, bowls, art combinations, branches, and candles are simple and easy home decor options. They are versatile and can fit in with all styles from modern to country. A starburst mirror adds a perfect accent to any wall while a bowl is a perfect centrepiece on a kitchen table.
