It is important that we keep general maintenance and upkeep on our homes. This can be anything from the roof to the grass and everything in between. For many homeowners, there is a regular Saturday morning to do list, for others, their attention to detail is lacking. One area that many people don’t really consider is the garage door.
What to look for?
The garage door is one of the most vulnerable entry ways into our homes. When we are away, typically they are not locked and anyone can simply walk up, open the door and gain entry. This is why we need a trusted service provider in installing, servicing and repairing of garage door in Scottsdale to ensure that the doors we have are secure and will last a long time. This however is no reason not to keep an eye out yourself for issues.
Broken glass
The first thing that you will want to look for is broken glass. In many garage doors we have three or more glass panels that allow light to enter into the garage. Over time however, these panels can become damaged, cracked or even broken. The typical reason for this is shaking due to opening and closing the door. Rarely do we get a baseball striking and breaking the glass.
Rust
The next thing that we want to look for is rust. Even though many garage doors are made out of aluminum which resists rust, there are some components such as springs and screws that are not as protected. When there is rust, the structural integrity of the entire door can become compromised.
Lose screws
This can become a very dangerous situation. When there are loose screws, tracks can shift, the doors can break and much more. There was a time that I opened my garage door and the screw or bracket that kept the door from falling out of the back was gone. It came down and hit me in the head. That was a very painful lesson. So, make sure that all of your screws and other connections are secure.
Batteries are changed
If you have an electronic garage door you want to make sure that the batteries and power connections to your door are in working order. If for any reason they are not, you may find yourself in a situation where you can’t enter your garage.
Paint and general damage
Most garage doors are painted white. However, in some situations you may want to change the color or do other aesthetic changes to them. Over time, rain, sun, wind, storms and other attacks from the elements may make them look dull or do other damage. If this occurs you will want to fix it as soon as possible.
Overall inspections
It is important that we just do an overall inspection regularly. If something doesn’t look right or out of place then you will want to take the time to look at it and make any changes or replacements. Doing a general inspection every season or twice a year will ensure that your garage door as well as your home will last the test of time.
