The home office has a different roles for every family. The design of this space is very individual to the needs on the different people. For some that work from home, it is a 9-to-5 place for business; others use it to check their mail, pay some bills or to store documents. It can be used by the kids for doing homework or playing computer games. The room can be transformed in library, sitting room or even a nice quite place for relaxation. If you don’t have a lot of space, you can paired it with a guest room or can be added in every room that have appropriate space for it. We can list a lot more options but you need to decide which is best for your family.
When planning renovating or redecorating, the very first priority is the storage. If you need to store a lot of books, papers or supplies, please keep in mind to plan additional drawers, shelves and cabinets galore. Next, find a desk that have everything you need: deep drawers, plenty of space and quality material. How to add storage to my home office?
When you plan the storage you will need, keep in mind that over the year you will receive a lot of bills, mail and statements. That’s why you need to invest in a filing cabinet. For a convenience choose rolling file cabinet if you have sensitive documents, invest in lockable one. For easiness you could label and to color code. Built-in shelves are an easy way to store book collections, drawers can be used to organize some staples, like pencils, pens, tapes, and calculator.
How to pick my desk?
Before to choose your desk consider its function. If you will use it for a home office, it should look more professional. Also it could be double sided if you plan to have meetings on it. The desk should be oversized and sturdy one that can contain your work documents. When you are working from home, you will need a separate desk, which is not used by the other family members. If the kids use the office for homework spot, you can try two-person desk or may be an extended built-in counter where more than one person can sit. But if the desk’s prime function is a space for odds and ends, the best option for you could be a smaller secretary desk but with additional storage options.
How to decorate my home office?
We all know that the traditional office is very formal and laden with woodwork. But why not to branch out on your décor. Go-to combinations that everyone know are globes, maps, table lamps, vases and clocks. This time you can add and something for personalized touch, like family photographs, travel souvenirs. Other must-have accessories are pencils cups, magazine holders, and paper trays. To add a touch of color try to buy vibrant and bright patterns. To organize your work you will need chalkboard, white board, or bulletin board. These can be used also for reminders, cool drawings, or funky pictures.
