How Does Environmentally Safe Pest Control Work?

Posted by: Founterior , April 29, 2021

With efforts to protect the environment gaining momentum, there have been calls to implement environmentally safe pest control measures.

People rely on artificial pesticides to deal with pest infestation. Though the pesticides kill the pest, they also pollute the environment and affect human health.  Hence, it has become imperative to use non-chemical techniques that are safe and environmentally reliable.

Here are a few Environmentally Safe Pest Control techniques you can consider going forward.

Mechanical Traps

The use of traps is an excellent eco-friendly pest control method to control pests such as rats, moles, and squirrels. By using traps, you can protect your garden and home from pest infestation. Mechanical traps do not pollute the environment instead it benefits the environment by minimizing harmful chemical build-up in the soil and air.

Some of the traps used include live-animal traps, electronic traps, multiple-catch live mouse traps, and trap boxes. When implemented well, it can successfully reduce the pest population. The captured animals can be released into the wild or place far away from the home or garden. Smith’s Pest Management is an eco-friendly pest control company that uses different mechanical traps to control and deter pest infestation.

Use of Organic Pesticides

The aim of applying eco-friendly pesticides is to protect the environment and promote human health. Using organic pesticides is recommended when controlling pests in the garden since they promote the health of the soil, garden plants, and soil living organisms.

Organic pesticides are less damaging and toxic to non-targeted microorganisms and humans. They are biodegradable, meaning they can return valuable nutrients to the ground that the plants can reuse for their growth and development. Likewise, compared to the artificial pesticides that can affect human health, organic pesticides are safer. Nevertheless, it would be best if you still handled them with proper care.

General House Cleaning Technique

Sometimes controlling pests does not need to involve chemicals, especially when dealing with a pest infestation inside the house. You may consider protective measures to ensure that your home is pest-free.

Some of the measures to take include sealing any possible pest entry holes, keeping the house clean using natural products, and conducting random checks to identify potential pest risks. Doing so minimizes the use of chemicals that would otherwise harm your family’s health. Regular cleaning and house maintenance are beneficial in controlling rodents and serpents in and around the house, garden, and lawn.

Pest Repellents Plants

One eco-friendly pest control technique that does not involve chemicals is planting pest repellent plants in and around your garden. The method is safe since it does not affect human health and helps to beautify the surroundings.

Many pest control plants have physiological features such as repugnant smells that make them suitable for natural pest control. When planted with your garden crops, they form a defensive pest protection layer. Basil, Chives, Chrysanthemums, Geraniums, Marigolds, Mint, Lemon thyme, narcissus, oregano, and artemisias are examples of pest repelling plants. The good thing about it is that it is a cheap pest control technique that requires you to take care of the plants by watering them.
